Insight Treatment Hour – Applied Behavior Analysis

On this episode of Insight Treatment Hour, host Frederik Schulin brings in Jose Rios, board certified behavior analyst, to discuss the impact of his work on autistic clients.

Jose opens up the show by giving insight into what ABA, Applied Behavior Analysis, consists of, who it’s for, and how he chose that as his line of work. He also explains the process of assigning a client with an FBA, or Functional Behavior Assessment, in order to address any behavioral or communication challenges that a client might face. From there, ABA takes an individual-based approach to see what the best course of actions for these behaviors will be.

After the break, Jose addressed the topic of behaviors being a result of a client’s environment and how that plays into treatment. He also gives a story about a non-verbal client and how his behaviors were positively affected as a result of intervention.

Listen in as Frederik and Jose go into further detail on topics such as assessing autistic individuals, overcoming preconceived notions, and how ABA works as a whole.
